Why Does She Stay?

by Heather Whaling

I didn’t mean for tonight’s blogging to be all about domestic violence — I actually have a list of other interesting topics that I promise I will get to! But, I just came across this link and wanted to share it with you.

One of the most frequently asked questions pertaining to domestic violence goes something like this: “Why does she stay?” Well, did you know that the most dangerous time for a victim is when she is trying to leave? Studies have shown that that’s when the majority of domestic violence-related murders occur.

This essay — written by a domestic violence survivor — answers that. Please read this and understand that women stay for a variety of reasons — like protecting their children or trying to avoid escalating the violence. Instead of blaming the victim, let’s place the blame where it belongs.
