Get Your #HAPPO On

by Heather Whaling

Live from [insert at least 15 markets] … it’s #HAPPO Day Live!

That’s right. After all the tweeting, blogging, Facebooking and resume-prepping, today is the day where the PR community rallies together to support our colleagues searching for new jobs. On a personal note, I couldn’t be more proud of my friend Arik Hanson and Valerie Simon, the “parents” of this incredible idea, as well as Mike Schaffer and PRCog who went way above and beyond in creating the Facebook page and helping get the website live.

Today’s blog post is simple: It’s here for you.

If you are in Columbus, Ohio and you need a job, I want to help you. If you are a Central Ohio employer, I have a list of talented, social-media-savvy, PR pros who are ready to hit the ground running. Plus, I’m more than happy to share your job openings on this post. If you are hiring — or if you know of any job opening — send them my way (email me at heather [at] gebencommunication.com). I will update this post throughout the day as I receive additional openings, so check back.

Want to land a PR job in Columbus? Feel free to leave your pitch, links, email address — whatever — in the comments. I will do whatever I can do help you. Employers: If you need to hire people who understand how to leverage online communication as part of a broader PR effort, this might be a good place to start.

#HAPPO is a feel-good event — and one that will hopefully employ some of our out-of-work friends. But, we’re not naive. There are way more job-seekers than there are open positions. Let’s not let HAPPO be just a one-day event. Even informally, we sustain the HAPPO movement by doing what we can to share job openings, mentor job seekers, facilitate connections, open doors. So, go #HAPPO!

Good Morning,
My name is Shamekko Early and I currently reside in Cincinnati, OH. I wouldn't consider myself a recent grad, nor a pr pro (yet). I'm somewhere in the the middle. Since graduating with a BBA in Marketing from the University of Cincinnati almost 6 years ago, I've gone on to intern at a sports & entertainment public relations firm, doing everything from answering phones, tracking hotel trends for 8 cities including Cincinnati, to street team promotions representing some of the largest brands in the area. Since then, I've gone on to work full time as the PR assistant for the city library.

Iu00e2u0080u0099m looking a pr position that will allow me to nurture my creativity in a challenging & supportive environment. This #happo idea is truly amazing and has allowed me to connect with so many like minded pr folks that it truly a great idea that I hope goes beyond the one day.

Hello #HAPPO #HAPPOOH folks,
I'm a caffeine-obsessed, blog-lovin' sassy pants YP looking for my perfect career match. I like a good hearty laugh with a big slice of social media on the side. I'm a Kent State PR grad who's finishing up her second agency internship in Columbus, Ohio.

I'm A-OK with relocating anywhere on the East Coast, PA, OH, Chicago etc. I've got no man, no kids, and no obligations. I'm all yours! Give me a job offer now and I might just throw in my soul as an added bonus. Did I mention my great sense of humor?

If you're opposed to happy, bubbly people go ahead and cross me off your list--it'll never work out. I'm an eternal optimist with a will of iron. I believe in kindness, hand-written thank you notes and saying "bless you" when someone sneezes.

I'm experienced enough to do the job right, but green enough that I haven't developed any bad habits. So mold me into your ideal little worker bee.

In short, I'm a bargain: Bloomingdale's quality at a Target price. Snatch me up while you can!
