Introducing #CommHacks: A Virtual "Hackathon" for PR Pros

1PercentBadge_orange-150Finally — a “hackathon” for the non-coders among us! The team at Tracky is hosting the first virtual hackathon for communications professionals. #CommHacks, if you will. Anyone working in the PR, marketing, journalism or content space can participate. The best part? No formal developer/coding training required.

Here’s the deal: #CommHacks is a hackathon based around #workhacks, or things that make a frequently used communications task easier, more efficient or, perhaps, eliminated altogether. #CommHacks encourages virtual collaboration to improve the entire communications industry. If you — or someone you know — created something from scratch, hacked together two or more tools or used an API to create something new, then submit for one, or more, of these “Areas of Need:”
  1. News
  2. Community relations
  3. Government relations
  4. Media relations
  5. Content marketing
  6. Editorial calendars
  7. Monitoring
  8. SEO
  9. Social networks
  10. Overall communications (e.g. internal, email)
  11. Wild card

Think you’ve got a potential winner? Tracky has the scoop to help you submit your idea and be entered to win a prize. (Deadline: Sunday, May 12 at 10p PDT.) Five winners will be selected. The creator of the best #workhack will receive a new iPad Mini, 250 Postagram credits, top feature in Tracky’s Communications #WorkHacks e-book and other honors. Also up for grabs are a free subscription to Pitchengine and personalized smartphone cases from Casetagram.

After hearing Tracky’s Sarah Evans recently speak at a conference, I updated my influencer outreach process to include a few #WorkHacks designed to improve the relationship-building and nurturing process. You can read my “secrets” here. Then, think of your favorite #CommHacks and be part of this virtual hackathon!
