Carefully Crafted on January 03

Life is not either/or. It's a series of ands.

Toward the end of December, I took a bit of a blogging hiatus. I also took some time off from work, didn’t tweet nearly as often as I normally do and, generally speaking, enjoyed some quality “offline” time with family and friends. Like many of you, I also used that time to create some goals for 2013. But, I can’t imagine you want to know what those are, right? So, instead of boring you with my personal goals, I want to share a the guiding principles that I hope will keep me — and you — on track throughout the year. Whether you make New Year’s Resolutions, follow the “3 words” approach or use some other method for establishing goals, I hope you’ll find these concepts handy throughout the year.

Life is a series of ands

  1. Life is not either/or. It’s a series of ands.
  2. Embrace the crazy.
  3. When one door closes, another will open.
  4. Trust your instincts. Always.
  5. Don’t work with jerks. (aka Surround yourself with the right people.)
  6. Challenge yourself. Set goals. Then, set stretch goals.
  7. Fly with your own wings.
  8. Celebrate successes.
  9. Do well by doing good.
  10. Be who you want to be.

What little phrases do you keep in mind to help you stay focused and on track to achieve your goals? Tell me on Twitter or leave ’em here in the comments.
