Think Sexism Doesn't Exist?

If you’re one of those people who thinks sexism is a crutch that women use — a non-issue that has been defeated — take a listen to this video and the interesting commentary from CNN.

The Pennsylvania governor makes an off-the-cuff comment about Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano and her qualifications to spearhead our Homeland Security. He suggested that she’s the perfect candidate for this job because she has no life. No family. Nothing to do but sit around and ponder how to keep America safe.

If a man were being appointed for this position, do you think anyone would care at all whether he had kids or not? (Ahem, Barack Obama has two kids, yet voters didn’t think his parental responsibilities would preclude him from fulfilling the duties of president!!) And, if Arizona Gov. Napolitano did have children — would that disqualify her from this position?

Blatant, overt sexism may be on the decline in certain situations; however, it’s far from gone. We still don’t view qualified men and women equally.
