A student recently asked me for some career advice. She’s looking for a job updating Facebook and Twitter.
At first, I was surprised that *that’s* a job aspiration. But, it does sound fun … and there is a lot of buzz about people being hired to manage social media. Those of us who live and breath this every day know that being a community manager — which partially includes updating social sites, as well as a host of other responsibilities — isn’t quite so stress-free and entertaining as playing on social media all day.
But, that’s besides the point. I’m sure there are more than a few people who would love to land a job where the main task is posting on Twitter and Facebook all day. If a student asked you how to get this dream job, what advice would you offer?
I posed this question on Twitter the other day and received a number of responses. Here’s just a sampling:
Thanks to @geekgiant, @mcafiero, @KMWein, @JasmineRBooks, @anejmehadzic and @Chickhuber for offering their words of wisdom. Now it’s your turn: What advice would you offer this student?
