It’s happened to all of us: We sit down to write and end up staring — paralyzed — at a blank screen (or page, if you’re partial to old-school pen and paper). It’s times like this when we need some creative inspiration … a little something to spark our own imagination.
If you’ve exhausted all your “typical” creative outlets, I’d like to recommend a new one: Medium. According to founder Evan Williams (yes, that @Ev):
Medium is a new place on the Internet where people share ideas and stories that are longer than 140 characters and not just for friends. It’s designed for little stories that make your day better and manifestos that change the world. It’s used by everyone from professional journalists to amateur cooks. It’s simple, beautiful, collaborative, and it helps you find the right audience for whatever you have to say.
So, if you’re looking for some fresh perspectives, creative viewpoints, off-the-beaten path topics, or just need to spend some time reading someone else’s writing to get your brain fired up, Medium is that source of inspiration. Here are some of my favorite “collections” (or topic areas) to get you comfortable with Medium as a content discovery and creativity engine:
- Geek Empire
- I.M.H.O.
- LadyBits
- LadyBusiness
- Life Hacks
- Medium for Haiti
- The Healthy Entrepreneur
- Thoughts on Creativity
- What I Learned Today
- American Dreamers
Ready to start reading? Here are 10 of the best Medium posts I’ve read recently:
- How to be Happy
- This post was never written
- Where’s the term sheet?
- Pay yourself first
- Why I love Twitter and barely tolerate Facebook
- ____ Ruined ____ for me
- The Importance of Mentors
- The Collaborative Economy: What it means for brands
Explore. Discover. And, then get back to work writing your own amazing content.
