I have to agree, the remarkable person is the pilot, with the flight attendants a close second. Everyone else acted in a manner I would hope all human beings would act when they see others in crisis. If those boat captains and crew hadn't been in a union, I'd bet the farm that they still would've had safety classes and known how to react. I'm more inclined to think that the only one who played a "key role in saving hundreds of lives" was the pilot- and that that has much less to do with his happening to belong to a union than with his being a mensa, former fighter jet pilot, owner of his own airline safety consultancy, investigator for the NTSB, an Air Line Pilots Association safety chairman, published several times regarding flying safety, etc. This was just one heck of an individual, you darn collectivist. hmm, I’m not too convinced that just because the ferry crews and air traffic controllers are represented by unions mean that unions should get the kudos here.
